ABOUT THE PLAN
The City of Gretna is updating its Comprehensive Plan to guide growth over the next 10 to 20 years.
Gretna is growing at a rapid rate. A comprehensive plan will help to guide growth and ensure that the community has a say in the City’s development. The updated comprehensive plan will address key issues such as sustainability, resiliency, and economic development. The end result of this planning process will be a holistic, forward-looking plan that can help Gretna create the future its community desires. Above all, this plan will capitalize on what makes Gretna unique, helping to maintain its charming small-town feel, while still welcoming new opportunities for its residents and businesses.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Participation is a key component of the comprehensive planning process.
The Gretna Comprehensive Plan engaged the community to gather thoughts and feedback on future visioning scenarios and preliminary planning goals. The engagement opportunities included a community workshop held on February 8th and pop-up events at Gretna Crossing YMCA, Hy-Vee, and the Children’s Library, which received support from over 100 community members. We need your input! A great comprehensive plan is one that is informed by community feedback. Throughout the planning process, there will be several community engagement opportunities, including in-person workshops, online surveys, and more. Upcoming community events and engagement opportunities will be posted here. Stay tuned!

THE PLANNING PROCESS
The comprehensive planning process consists of three phases.
Each planning phase will inform the next. This phased approach will help the Planning Team gain a solid understanding of the community’s needs and address them appropriately.

This phase includes a dynamic community engagement process that involves a wide range of community voices including local stakeholders, residents, committees, and public agency representatives. The purpose is to gain a comprehensive understanding of Gretna's current conditions and the community’s strengths and opportunities.

During Phase 2 the Planning Team will work with City leaders and stakeholders to generate a strategy for future land use and development. They will also organize several visioning sessions and workshops. From this idea exchange, a series of solutions will be proposed to address community planning issues and opportunities related to housing, economic development, downtown and neighborhood improvements, natural resources and open space, thoroughfares, and mobility.

In Phase 3 the planning team will prepare the first draft Comprehensive Plan. The first draft plan will be presented during a final community open house to solicit additional feedback and input. After gaining community input, the team will prepare a second draft plan and an implementation strategy. After final approval, the completed plan will contain numerous planning strategies and recommendations, as well as a roadmap for implementing them.

Plan documents will be available to the public throughout the planning process.
STATE OF THE CITY PRESENTATION: The State of the City presentation provides an overview of the current conditions in Gretna covering topics such as land use, zoning, transportation, market assessment, and more.
VISIONING WORKSHOP EXHIBITS: The visioning workshop included informative and interactive exhibits that covered the City’s existing conditions, future goals and strategies, and potential growth scenarios.
ENGAGEMENT SUMMARY: The summary outlines the community input from the visioning events, presents the preferred hybrid growth scenario, and includes the survey responses.
